Japan's Chicara Nagata Wins 2006 AMD World Championship of Custom Bike Building Sturgis, South Dakota, August 7th 2006 - Chicara Nagata of Chicara Motorcycles in Saga, Japan, was voted the 2006 Official World Champion Custom Bike Builder at the third annual staging of what is now regarded by builders and industry insiders alike as the world's most prestigious open custom bike building competition Hosted and staged for AMD by Sturgis Bike Week at their Thunder Road facility, just outside Sturgis, SD, August 5th through 7th, the 2006 Official World Championship of Custom Bike Building saw the participation of 77 builders from the United States and ten other countries. They fielded a stunning line-up of 100 custom bikes which all who witnessed agreed was the highest standard of custom bike design and engineering ever brought together in one place. Although the standard was almost impossibly high, Nagata was crowned World Champion by a clear margin. Judging for the award was by the competitors themselves, with 66 of the 77 competitors voting. Eleven selected additional VIP judges from the custom press and vendor community rounded out the expertise and perspectives that scrutinized the entries. The winning bike, 'Chicara Art', a hand-crafted steel, aluminum and chrome tribute to the 1937 model U Harley-Davidson, combines the current popularity of retro styling with the World Championship competitor community's desire to honor originality, precision and high levels of one-off engineering.
