Front
Fairing Assembly
The Mille's stock headlight assembly is the same as, and will
bolt right into the Tuono's smaller bikini headlight fairing.
The big aluminum bracket the bolts to the frame's steering
head and supports the insturment pannel and headlight assembly
/ front fairing is esentially the same on both bikes and DOES
NOT need to be replaced. Unfortunately, we again found this
out the hard way. Aprilia parts fische shows them as 2 different
part numbers, so we ordered the Tuono part only to find once
it arived and we compared it, the only difference was the
Tuono's brace is anodized Black, and has an additional reinforcement
strut welded over the frame strut. It's not a must have for
the conversion. |

It
took us another month to get the trick carbon fibre front fairing
from Aprilia to complete our bike conversion and get it on the
road. The stock Mille RSV's headlight assembly bolts right in
to it. The Tuno's carbon fairing requires (3) circlip nuts to
bolt-in the headlight, which you can't rob from the old Mille
RSV fairing because its mounting nuts are molded-in. Be sure to
order these circlip nuts with the fairing from your dealer .
We forgot to oder these ourself, foolishing thinking the nuts
would come molded in, but luckilywe found somen in our shop's
assortment of fastners and fittings. Never throw out screws, bolts
and filltings from old bikes and crashed bodywork! They will prove
priceless in the future.
Our carbon fibre front fairiing arrived at our
dealer from Aprilia with a small crack in the side because it
was only bubble wrapped inside the dealer's main parts delivery,
and the fragile carbon fibre fairing was not protected in its
own individual card board box as it should have been. We made
a quick phone call to Aprilia USA to see if we could exchange
the broken fairing, but we found out our fairing was only one
of 2 ordered for the USA this month, and the other one had already
been sold. The next delivery of 2 Tuono carbon fairings was another
month away. So we patch our cracked fairing with Super Glue, let
it cure overnight, and then bolted it on the bike so we finally
could go riding. We'll worry about bringing it it back to the
dealer for an exchange, later. We were told by our local Aprilia
rep that Air Tech has purchased a set of stock Tuono bodywork
to duplicate in fiberglass. So an easier, quicker and cheaper
alternative for Aprilia Tuono bodywork might be Air Tech.
Another part
we never could get from Aprilia were the special windscreen mounting
screws. We were able to substitute the (6) needed windscreen mounting
screws from a Ducati superbike at the dear price of $6 each x
(6) =$36. Yikes!
Finally,
after 4 months of waing on parts, and oursourcing them from other
suppliers, our Mille to Tuno R Conversion was completed and ready
to ride!!!!
