2004
LA Calendar Motorcycle Show
Performance
Machine Bike Contest Winners
The 2004
LA Calendar Motorcycle Show's Performance Machine
Bike Contest featured one of our best ever turnouts
of contest entries for the 9 different highly competive classes
battliong for some $70,000 in cash and awards.. This year's
Show expanded its reputation for being one of the best Bike
Contests in America, to being possibly the premier Bike Contest
in the World with top contenders coming to the Show from around
the world. Performance Machine even upped the ante furtherthis
year with the addition of a separate $5,000 cash prize fro
the Best Performance Machine Equipped Bike.
In fact,
two foreign entires did come out on top. Zero Engineering
of Japan's founder Katsuho Kumagi claimed
Best of Show with his Pan Head hot rod "bike
"Masamune." And NCR Racing / Poggipolini
in Italy
sent over their $164.000 titanium and magnsium 180hp naked
Sucati Superbike called Macchia Nera to ganer the Show's Best
Sportbike trophy.
For the
3rd year in a row American builder Jesse Rooke
almost repeated his 2002 and 2004 Best of Show victories with
his latest creation, the energy drink sponsored Rock Star
Kruiser. Jesse still won Best Pro Builder
for Rock Star Kruiser's origionality and clean design, a Jesse
Rooke trademark that puts Jesse in a class of his own among
the world's top builders. But the judges ended up giving Best
of Show to Zero Engineering to spotlight Katsyho's own unique
retro style which he pioneered and which so many other builders
are now emulating. The Best of Show choice was made to reward
Katsyho's individual uniqueness and creativity, which is just
as important, if not more so, than the beautiful but boring
"me too" choppers which most pro builders churn
out by the dozens.
For those
interested in entering next year's Performance Machine Bike
Contest, the Contest just takes place on one day at the Show,
Sunday. Registration is just by walk-up on Sunday morning
between 8-10am, and all bike must remain in place until after
the awards ceremony and the close of the Show at 5pm. Complete
details at: Bike
Contest Registration.
