KTM 990 RC8 Superbike Prototype Tokyo Motor Show, October 21th: KTM, one of the world's leading off-road bike manufacturers is expanding its motorcycle product line into the streetbike market. The bike shown here is their RC8 "concept" or first prototype of their e new KTM superbike. The bike employs a proven Ducati style chromoly tube frame with a stressed member 990cc 75-degree V-Twin engine of KTM's own manufacture. The design is very simple and clean, and features a few new innovations like the under seat fuel tank, complete under engine exhaust system, and dry sump lubrication (oil tank in the swingarm?). KTM's entry into the sportbike market will be spearheaded with this new leading edge superbike and a factory team entry in the 2006 World Superbike Championship. Compete Details and Pictures HERE 165 horsepower and 178 kilos are astounding figures, but not as astounding as the competition. The new CBR1000RR will have a 2nd row start against the other new Japanese 1000cc superbikes. 2004
Honda CBR1000RR Fireblade
Superbike Still, American Honda's support team, Erion Racing will probably race the new CBR1000RR in the AMA's unquestionably stupid and repetitive 1000cc Superstock or Formula Extreame class where it can be competitive against its equally undeveloped or non factory supported Japanese brethern. But in SBK World Superbike, the reigning 600 Supersport Champs the Ken Tate Honda team will move up and race the new CBR1000RR with sponsorship from Honda Europe. The team will probably have back door development help and race parts from HRA of Japan, a privilage not offered to American Honda for political reasons. Additional Details, Pictures, Specs of the Honda CBR1000RR HERE.
