Kawasaki U.S.A. is backing female road racer Jessica Zalusky in select AMA Pro road racing events in 2005.
Jan 10th- Jessica Zalusky will compete in Superbike class races on the Ninja® ZX-10R and in the Superstock class on the ZX-6RR at select 2005 AMA road racing events as a support rider in the Kawasaki Team Green program.

A resident of Prior Lake, Minn., and former pro snowboarder, Zalusky has raced motorcycles since 1999 and most recently raced for the Moto Primo Suzuki Team. In addition to competing in AMA Supersport and 750cc Superstock classes, her accomplishments include a ninth overall finish in the 2002 AMA Pro Thunder series and 31st overall in the 2004 AMA Superstock class.

Team Green™ Manager Reid Nordin said Zalusky is a skilled rider and brings a positive message to pro motorcycle racing.

"Jessica is an inspiration and an incredible role model," said Nordin. "More and more women are buying sport bikes, and Jessica's story will demonstrate that women can enjoy motorcycling in both recreational and competitive environments."

Part of Zalusky's goal for the new season includes becoming the first woman to compete in the Superbike class at Brainerd International Raceway in June 2005. Her ultimate goal, however, is to win an AMA road racing championship.

"Motorcycling is a great pastime in and of itself, and I'd like to do for road racing what Angelle Savoie has done for motorcycle drag racing," said Zalusky. "She's a multi-time champion and a great spokesperson, and I'd like to take that same message of participation and excitement to the women out there who love road racing as much as I do."

"I hope that my racing will allow women to realize that there are no barriers, other than the ones you create for yourself. I also hope to reach out to young women, to inspire them to chase their dreams and to let them know that they can do anything."

Jessica's website address is www.roadracinggirl.com

Not yet fully developed and a hodge podge of mixed parts from last season's bike, Matt Mladin
aboard the new 2005 Suzuki GSXR1000RR decimated the rest of the field in just the first 2 days of the 3-day test.

Redesigned Daytona Track Still Not Safe?
Maladin on All-New 2005 Yoshimura 2005 GSXR
is 1-sec Quicker Than His Rivals!

Matt Then Crashes into Dangerous Daytona Walls,
Injured and Knocked Unconscious, Misses Final Day of Test

Daytona Beach, Florida, USA (Wednesday, January 5) –- Defending American Superbike champion Mat Mladin has sent an early warning to his rivals competing in this year’s championship by setting the fastest time on each of the opening two days of the scheduled three-day test at the world famous Daytona International Speedway.

With one day remaining at the test, Mladin has posted the fastest time so far with a 1-min 40.309-sec lap of the revised 2.95-mile circuit. His pace setting times were overshadowed by a late afternoon crash on the second day, resulting in the 32-year-old Australian being transported to nearby Halifax Medical Centre for observation.

After initially saving a ferrous rear wheel slide on the exit of the new Turn Five section of the course, Mladin was unable to regain full control of his Yoshimura Suzuki and was forced to jump clear before striking a trackside safety barrier.

“Essentially I got the thing sideways exiting one of the new turns, changing up from first to second for a short amount of time and it was at that point when I clicked second that it went sideways and spat me over the top,” said Mladin, as he prepared to leave Daytona and return to LA.

“I actually got it back under control, but as soon as I looked up I realised that there was a wall approaching and I was forced to jump off it. From what I've been told they said I impacted the wall pretty hard, somewhere in the region of 80mph. It was a wall that was on the outside of one of the existing turns that used to be part of the race track.”

“I was unconscious for quite a while and didn't start to become coherent until I arrived at the hospital. As a result I've got a bit of concussion and the headaches that go with that, along with a swollen left ankle as a result of a small fracture.”

“I'm heading back to LA now and hope to be seeing a specialist first thing tomorrow. At this stage I'm planning on being back in Australia by Saturday, unless the doctor has other ideas. I'm hoping that no surgery will be required so that the recovery time is minimal. Other than that I feel okay. The foot is fairly swollen after taking a good hit.”

“Aside from this incident, the opening two days of the test were very promising for us. The new ’'05 Suzuki GSX-R1000 was very good and was quick through the speed trap there, so itss all shaping up very nicely in that regard at present. We were quickest at the end of each day which is always good. As with any of these tests where you are preparing a new bike there are lots of things to work through and so far so good."

Above: The newly revised Daytona motorcycle course for 2005 is still among the most unprofessional and overly dangerous racetracks in Ameirca. But The Speedway won't justify the expense to build a properly designed infield course for a once a year race that draws so few paying spectators. While the AMA won't give up it's biggest source of income from the multitude of classes which run there throughout Bike Week.
Complete details HERE

Mladin returned to the circuit briefly on Wednesday morning, moving about on crutches before heading to the airport and returning to California.

This weeks test gave competitors in this year's American Superbike Championship, their first look at the revised layout. The changes to the famous circuits infield has taken the NASCAR Turns One and Two out of play, leaving the riders with a tight, yet demanding addition to the infield, while the overall length of the motorcycle course has decreased by over half a mile. The changes were met with general appreciation from the riders in attendance. Fine-tuning of the changes will continue as riders provide circuit staff and race officials with additional information.

Mladin commenced the test riding a hybrid machine made up of components from his last year's championship-winning bike and his brand new 2005 model Suzuki GSX-R1000. Day two saw him switch to one of his new 2005 machines, as his team went through the regime of machine setup and preparations that will form the basis of Mladin’s mount for his championship defence.

The opening day saw the five-time American Superbike champion post a time of 1:42.107. A day later and aboard his latest spec machine, Mladin dropped his times by almost two seconds as his worked his way through the latest batch of tyres made available by Dunlop and designed to suit the unique demands of the ultra fast Florida circuit.

Mladin and his Yoshimura Suzuki team will undertake a number of further pre-season tests before the series heads back to Daytona for the opening round of the championship on March 12.

World Champion Neil Hodgson weaves and dodges around the walls, tire barriers and traffic cones that make the newly revised Daytona motorcycle course still among the most unprofessional and overly dangerous racetracks in Ameirca.

World Champ Hodgson & Eric Bostrom Report on Daytona Tests
Ducati Corse Press Department, Daytona International Speedway (Florida), Thurs, Jan 6th: Parts Unlimited Ducati Austin riders Neil Hodgson and Eric Bostrom completed three promising days of testing with their Ducati 999s at the Daytona International Speedway on Wednesday. The duo began preparations for the 2005 AMA Superbike campaign which is scheduled to begin at Daytona in March. Both riders recorded impressive top speeds on the recently revised 3.0 mile (4.8 km) circuit. Hodgson's Ducati 999 was the fastest bike at the test, having motored through the speed trap at 194.635 mph according to the AMA's timing equipment.

Neil was particularly impressive in his first US test as an AMA Superbike regular, the British rider turning in a positive 1m40.711s on the final day, which was good enough for third quickest overall. The former World Superbike champion got up to speed on the unique Daytona speed bowl best known for its fearsome banked sections.

"It's really good to be here. I love Daytona and its history and I like racing on classic circuits like this," said the 31-year old Isle of Man resident. "It was a bit of an eye-opener, coming here. It looks a lot easier on television, that's all I can say -- you know, (with) the banking and everything. But it's exciting!"
"It was going really well working with Neil. He gave us a good direction with the bike and his lap times continued to drop after the riders lapped enough to clean off the circuit and give more grip," said Parts Unlimited Ducati Austin race engineer Luca Ferraccioli.

Eric Bostrom turned in a best lap of 1m41.1s late on Wednesday, although the lap was credited to his teammate on the AMA's timing monitors. His lap time was good for fifth quickest over the course of the three-day test.

Bostrom, who set pole and was a contender for the win in last year's 200-mile race at the Speedway, saw his lap times remarkably drop by over a second in the morning session on Wednesday. In the afternoon, Eric rode Neil's 999 to set his quickest time of the day as he continued to improve.

"I'm happy with the way things are going. It was definitely a good test for us. The Dunlop tires were good, I'm still learning the front and I'm still looking for one more second," said Eric. "The new suspension link we tried seemed to really help on the banking and my confidence is just getting better with each lap."
Eric continued: "We learned some things when I rode Neil's bike. His settings did some things a little better than mine and we'll have to see if that can translate to my set-up or not. I think there's a lot to learn from having a teammate and I look forward to it this year."

"I think it was very positive," said chief mechanic Gary Medley of the test. "We got a lot of information from Eric over the three days and the team worked well together. With a few more tests, we will be ready for the season."

The Parts Unlimited Ducati Austin team will test again this spring before the 2005 AMA championship begins at Daytona on March 13th.

The mutual endorsement between The SBK World Superbike Championship and Fast Dates continues the friendship between both parties which first began with the 1997 Fast Dates Calendar, as explained by FastDates.com Calendar publisher Jim Gianatsis.

"We are excited to continue our close relationship with the world's most excing and important production based roadracing series," said Jim. "The upcoming 2005 SBK World Superbike Championship is already shaping up to be one of the most exciting season's ever with the return of all the major Japanese factory supported teams. It's unfortunate there will not be an SBK round in America this year, but we look forward to World Superbike returning to America for 2006.

In the meantime, it gives us a great reason this year to travel to one of the other international rounds of the SBK World Championship to photograph the next Fast Dates Calendar. I'm looking at getting our crew together for the Brands Hatch, British round on August 5-7th. It should be pretty wild as the race there draws close to 100,000 fans. I'll have to remember to get an air horn, and keep the models out of the pubs"

While SBK superbike fans can still look forward to complete race coverage throughout 2005 on the FastDates.com and WorldSBK.com websites, on SpeedTV with same day broadcast, while enjoying the top factory superbikes and beautiful SBK Fast Dates Angels featured in the Fast Dates Calendar.

Gianatsis Design Associates just concluded the photo shoot for the 2006 Feelin' Lucky Garage Girls Calendar featuring 3 very beautiful current and former SBK Fast Dates Calendar Angels: Andra Cobb (2006), Chandi Mason (2005) and Taylor McKegney (2000). Maria Sharapova

Supergirl of Tennis
We were on hand at the WTA World Championship Final to see beautiful 17-year old 6-foot tall sensation Maria Sharapova collect a $1 Million Dollar check and a brand new Porche SUV for her win over Serena Willams in the tournament finale.

Maria follows in the footsteps of previous women's tennis superstars Martina Hingis and Anna Kourkonova in returning a beautiful woman to the fore front in world sports. And she has done them one better by proving her ability as a top athlete by winning the 2 most prestegious events of the 2004 season, the WTA Final, and Wimbledon earlier this year.

This year with her tournamet wins and placing, along with product endorsements for major companies incluiding Nike and Motorola, Maria has probably earned somewhere between 5 and 10 million dollars. Equivalent to the top men of motorsports, inlcluding Valentino Rossi in MotoGP.

New MotoGP Regulations for 2005 feature no Rain haulted Races
Jan 1st, 2005: Here is the breakdown of new regulations appropriate to the MotoGP class for 2005 released by the Grand Prix Commission in Barcelona on December 14th 2004. Most significant is that a race will no longer be stopped by rain. In the past the race leader could stop the race at any point because of rain, and if the race had run 2/3rds distance the leader would be declared the winner. Otherwise the bikes returned to the pits for a change to rain tires, and then lined up for a restart in the order they were running when the race stopped. Now it is up to the rider alone to decide if he wants to continue to race with slicks once it starts raining, or if he needs to make a pit stop during the race to change to rain tires in order to finish the remaining race distance.

MotoGP Schedule reduced to one official qualifying session
* Friday Free Practice: 10h00 - 11h00
* Friday Free Practice: 14h00 - 15h00
* Saturday Free Practice: 10h00 - 11h00
* Saturday Qualifying Practice: 14h00 - 15h00
* Sunday Warm Up: 09h45 - 10h05
* Sunday Race: 14h00

No more MotoGP races stopped by rain

* A race will not be interrupted for climatic reasons and riders who wish to change tyres or make adjustments must enter the pits and do so during the actual race.

Fuel Tanks

* Fuel tanks of all construction types must be filled with fire retardant material or be lined with a fuel cell bladder. In the MotoGP class, fuel tanks made of non-metallic composite materials (carbon fibre, aramid fibre, fibreglass, etc.) must be fitted with a fuel cell bladder, or have passed the FIM test standards for composite material fuel tanks as described in the FIM Fuel.
* In defining fuel tank capacity all containers of the motorcycle capable of supplying fuel to the carburettors/injectors may be taking into account.
* Refuelling may only be carried out from an unpressurised container, and the motorcycle fuel tank may not be pressurised above atmospheric pressure at any time, other than the small pressure increase due to normal tank ventilation to the atmosphere on the moving motorcycle.
* No fuel on the motorcycle may be more than 15°C below ambient temperature. The use of any device on the motorcycle to artificially decrease the temperature of the fuel below ambient temperature is forbidden.

Sportbiker Clocked At 205 MPH Pleads Guilty
Dec 23 Wabasha, Minn. (AP) The Minnesota motorcyclist accused of buzzing down a rural highway at 205 mph on his stock Honda RC51 streetbike must complete nearly an hour of community service for every mile-per-hour authorities say he was going.

Sam Tilley, 20, pleaded guilty Wednesday to speeding and driving without a motorcycle license. He was sentenced to a year of probation and 200 hours of community service. Wabasha County Attorney Jim Nordstrom said he dropped a misdemeanor charge of reckless driving.
Tilley, who previously pleaded not guilty to the charges, decided against going to trial on charges that carried maximum penalties of 90 days in jail and a $1,000 fine.

Without a trial, Tilley and the State Patrol won't be able to make their case about how fast Tilley was actually going. In September, a state trooper flying above U.S. 61 in southeastern Minnesota used a stopwatch and road markings to clock Tilley going 205 mph in a 65-mph zone.

But motorcycle enthusiasts -- and Tilley himself -- said they doubted his Honda RC51 could move that fast. Tilley had his bike tested by a mechanic, who said it wouldn't exceed 159 mph.

Tilley wasn't talking about the guilty plea Wednesday and has given few interviews since the incident. The State Patrol didn't comment either.

Legal observers said while Tilley avoided jail time and fines, the community service requirement is far more than the 15 to 30 hours that even a first-time DUI offender often gets.

World Superbike Champ Neil Hodgson at Daytona
Jan 05th -The three-day motorcycle tire test at historic Daytona International Speedway wrapped up on Wednesday with more than 20 riders turning laps on the new 2.95-mile road course in preparation for Daytona 200 Week on March 3-12.

The test gave riders the first opportunity to shake down the new infield motorcycle road course as well as utilize the new amenities from the multi-million, multi-faceted infield renovation.

For new Ducati Austin rider Neil Hodgson, everything at Daytona International Speedway seemed new.
"It feels so different," Hodgson said during the lunch break on Wednesday. "My bike was just a privateer Ducati. I spoke to the technicians here and they think the (1995) bike would have less power than a 600 would have now. All I remember was going around the bike comfortable and relaxed enjoying the ride. Now we you get on those beasts, it feels like warp speed."

Hodgson made his first and only visit to the "The World Center of Racing" back in 1995 when he competed in the Daytona 200 finishing 16th aboard a privateer Ducati.

Since then, Hodgson won the British Superbike championship (2000) and World Superbike championship (2003) and has now returned to America to compete in the AMA Superbike championship with Ducati Austin.
Besides breaking in the new infield motorcycle course, Hodgson also noticed all the changes in the infield such as the new garages, new Gatorade Victory Lane and Daytona 500 Club, FanZone and massive Turn 1 tunnel.

"I remember it was a bit scruffy," Hodgson said of his first visit to the track. "It looked dated 10 years ago. I'm glad they put all these new garages in for me. That's very kind. I really impressed with that."

Hodgson will compete aboard the 999 Ducati in the opening round of the AMA Superbike Championship at Daytona on Saturday, March 12 as he tries to become the first rider in history to win World, British and America championships.

He's ready for the challenges that Daytona presents. "It's not a picnic," Hodgson said. "At this track, there's nowhere to rest. Obviously, the banking, you can't relax on it. When you come off the banking go towards to the finish line, you're going so fast and there's so much wind on you, you're just trying to hold onto the thing."

This week's test was the first with his new team. So far, Hodgson has been impressed. "I think the team is really looking promising," Hodgson said. "They've got fantastic support from Italy. They've got some fantastic technicians here. I didn't know what to expect. This is my first test with the team and I'm pleasantly surprised. Everybody has been extremely professional. I think we've got a fair chance."

Next up at Daytona International Speedway is Rolex Sports Car Series testing in preparation for the Feb. 5-6 Rolex 24 At Daytona. Testing is free and open to the public with access to the Oldfield Grandstand through the lobby of DAYTONA USA.

Yamaha Confirms Haga, Andrew Pitt for
2005 World Superbike
10/1/2005 - Yamaha has signed popular Japanese rider Noriyuki Haga to complete its line-up for the 2005 Superbike World Championship season.

Haga will race a YZF-R1 for the Milan-based Yamaha Motor Italia team, reuniting him with the brand on which he made his name in the late Nineties. The Japanese ace was a Yamaha rider between 1994 and 2001 and during this period he won 11 world superbike races, taking a best championship finish of second in the 2000 season, Yamaha's last year of official participation in the series.

Last year Noriyuki rode a privately-entered Ducati to six wins and third in the series, a result bettered only by the Italian manufacturer's factory entered riders.

Haga will have his first experience of the R1 when he joins team-mate Andrew Pitt in a three day test at the Phillip Island circuit in Australia later this month. Pitt has already completed two tests with the R1, both at Valencia in Spain, which Haga was unable to attend for contractual reasons.

In addition to Yamaha Motor Europe's officially-supported Italian squad, a number of other long-standing Yamaha teams have announced their intention to independently enter the 2005 Superbike World Championship using race-kitted YZF-R1 machinery. Among the teams due to line-up on the grid this year are: Yamaha Motor France, who will enter former Grand Prix riders Norifumi Abe and Sebastien Gimbert; European Superstock Champions Lorenzini by Leoni, who are running Italian rider Gianluca Vizziello; and reigning Endurance World Champions Yamaha GMT94, who are intending to enter selected rounds with Spanish rider David Checa.

Noriyuki Haga
"I'm looking forward to returning to Yamaha and turning the R1 into a winner! I am on holiday with my family just now so I should be feeling good when I meet up with the team for my first ride on the bike, at Phillip Island later this month. I'm very happy to be staying in superbikes and joining this good team. As everyone knows, I love this championship and I've also worked with many of my mechanics before, and also the people at Yamaha Europe, so it will not feel all new to me. It should be fun!"

The 2005 Pirelli Calendar and new Book Revealed

17 year old supermodels get up close and personal in Rio de Jenerio for Pirelli as they improvise for lack of swimsuits.

Oh my god!... Supermodels get
naked
in
Brazil!
The 2005 Pirelli Calendar
Shot by world-renowned French fashion photographer Patrick Demarchelier, the 2005 Pirelli Calendar chose the spectacular setting of Rio de Janeiro. Demarchelier has grasped and assimilated the spirit of Brazil, a city dominated by strong contrasts, required a masterly use of light to express strong contrasts and obtain striking portraits, black and white only.

Unfortunately despite a million dollar budget to hire the world's top and upcoming supermodels and photographer Demarchelier, Pirelli ran out of money when it came to buying swimsuits for the girls. Oh well.....

It's an international cast with three brazilians, two Americans, one Romanian, one Swede and one German ranging in age from just turned 17 to the legendary Naomi Campbell in her mid '30s. For the inside story on the very sexy and very revealingh Pirelli Calendar go to Pirelli 2005.

Michael Jordan Introduces 3 rider
AMA Team

Jan 4th- Sports Superstar Michael Jordan premiered his new 2005 AMA Superbike Team at this week's Daytona tests. The Michael Jordan Motorsports Suzuki Team includes riders Jason Pridmore, Steve Rapp and Montez Stewart on GSXR1000s.

Pridmore will contest both Superbike and Superstock with different spec bikes at each race date. Rapp and Stewart will concentrate specifically on the Superstock title, but will have the option to run in Superbike as the opportunity allows (certainly dependant on the track speeds and mecnanical condition for their less powerful Superstock bikes which may have to do double duty).

Top Privateer Geoff May joins Vincent Haskovec at EMGO Suzuki as team looses Valvoline sponsorship
Jan 4th- Privateer Geoff May who finished 5th in the AMA Superbike Championship last seaon on his Suzuki GSXR1000, beating factory riders Eric Bostrom and Aaron Yates, has been wisely picked up for 2005 by team owner John Ulrich (publisher of Road Racing World) for his EMGO Suzuki team.

Suprisingly, May will have to step back and contest the confusing AMA Supersport (600cc) and Superstock (1000cc) classes where he should have a very good chance in Superstock of pulling off the Championship.

Vincent Haskovec returns this year with the team to compete again in Formula Xtreame (600cc modified) where he finsihed 3rd last year behind the lone factory Hondas, and in Superstock (1000cc).

The team took part in Daytona tests this week, switching tire sponsors at the last minute from Dunlop to Pirelli. More significantly, the Ulrich team lost it's long-time principal sponsor Valvoline who has been the team's title sponsor for some 25 years. The Valvoline sponsorship ended at the end of 2004, with Valvoline wanting to shiftmore of its budget and focus to NASCAR, certainly where it has a bigger target audience and media coverage.

Piaggio Completing Purchase of Aprilia
Piaggio S.p.A., the manufacturer of Vespa scooters, has announced they are completing the purchase of Aprilia motorcycles.

The take over of Aprilia makes Piaggio, who also owns Derbi and Gilera, the biggest motorcycle manufacturer in Europe with 24% of the total sales, producing 600,000 motorcycles and scooters annually with 6,000 employees at 8 plants. This gives piaggio the most complete rangeof products in the european market from 50cc scooters to 1000cc motorcycles.

As far as Aprilia's racing future, management has voice their lack of interest to continue in Open MotoGP, but they certainly will continue in 125cc and 250cc where they are dominate in the World Championship and have many customer teams. They have said they will consider a return to World Superbike.

American Honda Rolls its Own for AMA Superbike in 2005
American Honda is making a big deal over announcing it is having to build its own AMA Superbikes for 2005 from stock CBR1000RR production bikes.

In past years the factory Honda Superbikes were delivered as fully assembled and tested race bikes on lease from HRC Honda in Japan. This ment the American Honda race team "terchnicians' were pretty much parts changers and the bikes had to be returned to Japan after the season ended. These lease bikes were also a year behind in technical development from what the factory was running in World Superbike and the Japanese Superbike Championship.

Now American Honda will have to start from a stock CBR1000RR, pretty much like Team Ten Kate did last year as they garnered very impressive results in World Superbike, with Chris Vermeulen winning back-to-back races at Laguna Seca.

And don"t go feeling too sorry for American Honda or thinking the privateers now have a chance to beat them.
American Honda will get special "Race Kits" for the bikes whcih include all the trick cams, high compression pistons, rods, valves, clutches, works suspension, etc., which privateers probably won't be able to buy, or couldn't afford to buy if they could. But for American Honda a $50,000 Race Kit for the CBR1000RR is certainly a lot cheaper than a $125,000 HRC leased bike.

And even if you could have an American Honda spec Superbibke, you still couldn't beat Miguel or Jake.
